Growing Our Sphere of Influence: Cluster x Pathways (2023–2025)

In 2023, Cluster stepped into something that went beyond executive search.

We stepped into mentorship.

Through our partnership with Ateneo–Pathways to Higher Education, seven Cluster Advisers joined the Trailblazer Mentoring Program — a pilot initiative designed to accompany high-potential public school scholars through a critical season of college, discernment, and personal growth.

What began as a one-year pilot quietly became a two-year journey of shared learning, perspective, and transformation.

Why Pathways?

The education landscape in the Philippines presents significant challenges. In the 2018 PISA results, the Philippines ranked last in reading and near the bottom in science and mathematics. Beyond academic performance, Filipino students also ranked among the lowest in self-confidence and growth mindset.

Yet despite these realities, there are students who persevere.

Public high school students who make it to senior high school.

Students who show academic potential.

Students who dream not only for themselves — but for their families.

What many of them lack is not intelligence or drive. It is access.

Access to networks.

Access to exposure.

Access to mentors who can help them navigate college and career decisions.

Pathways exists to bridge that gap. For over two decades, the organization has identified high-potential but financially underprivileged students and nurtured them into ethical leaders committed to excellence and service to society.

When Cluster partnered with Pathways, we saw an alignment of values. At our core, we believe in relationships — and in expanding opportunity through trusted networks.

Mentorship felt like a natural extension of who we are.

Sharing Access, Expanding Perspective

In August 2023, our Advisers attended the Mentors’ Orientation at Ateneo de Manila University. The program’s approach was holistic. It wasn’t just about academic tutoring or career advice.

It focused on:

  • Calling

  • College and career readiness

  • Character formation

  • Community

Mentors were invited to accompany students — not fix them, not direct them, but journey with them.

Each mentoring cluster paired corporate mentors with college juniors across disciplines such as Engineering, IT, Health Sciences, Education, Business, Architecture, Mathematics, and more. While industry alignment was considered, mentors were encouraged to teach transferable skills — communication, leadership, discernment, and teamwork — the qualities that matter across any field.

But beyond structure and session guides, what made the program powerful was exposure.

When a scholar connects with a corporate mentor, they gain access to a demographic not naturally within their daily environment. They gain language, confidence, and perspective. They begin to see that the professional world is not distant or unattainable.

This is what mentorship is about.

Growing their sphere of influence by sharing ours.

What the Experience Meant to Our Advisers

Over two years, our seven Cluster Advisers gave their time through group sessions, one-on-one conversations, goal-setting discussions, and reflective check-ins.

But something unexpected happened.

They were changed too.

One Adviser shared:

“Thank you, Cluster and Pathways for making it possible for us to be part of the program. I do feel very blessed by them and grateful for the new relationships I formed.”

Another reflected:

“I was blessed by the experience, and truly feel I learned more from the experience than what I was able to share.”

And another described the journey as:

“Quite memorable and life-changing. I was inspired by the scholars’ openness to share their life with us — and especially grateful for the opportunity to just get to know them and learn also from shared values and beliefs.”

These reflections highlight something important.

Mentorship is not a one-way transfer of knowledge. It is mutual growth.

The scholars gained insight, encouragement, and perspective. Our Advisers gained renewed purpose, gratitude, and humility.

More Than Career Advice

Pathways emphasises core values such as Discernment, Integrity, Service to Society, and Commitment to Excellence.

Mentors were asked to create safe spaces — to listen reflectively, provide constructive feedback, and foster long-term relationships grounded in professionalism and trust.

For many scholars, mentorship became a space where they could be seen and heard without judgement. It was an opportunity to clarify goals, strengthen self-awareness, and build confidence in navigating real-world challenges.

For our Advisers, it was a reminder that leadership extends beyond titles and business achievements.

It is about presence.Patience.Choosing to invest in helping someone else’s future.

A Generational Ripple

At Cluster, we often speak about the power of trusted networks. In executive search, we help companies access leaders through relationships.

Through Pathways, we witnessed another dimension of that same principle.

When we share access, we expand possibility. When we open our networks, we widen someone’s world.

And when we mentor with intention, we create a ripple that can last generations.

Seven Advisers said yes in 2023.

Over two years, they demonstrated that impact is not only measured by placements or performance — but by the lives we help shape along the way.

As we look ahead, we remain grateful for the opportunity to partner with Pathways and to stand alongside scholars who are courageously building their futures.

Because leadership is not only about rising.

It is about lifting.

And sometimes, the most meaningful influence we can have is simply choosing to share our sphere with someone who has yet to step into theirs. 💙
